Excess skin on the neck can be one of the most difficult, and frustrating, concerns to address. Neck lift surgery, however, can effectively remove the sagging tissue and tighten underlying muscles. In our practice’s experience, patients who are prepared for the recovery often have a better experience and improved healing. As a result, Dr. Ali Sepehr, our extensively trained facial plastic surgeon, explains what to expect following a neck lift and how to make the time go as quickly and pleasantly as possible.
Neck lift surgery typically will be an outpatient procedure, so you should be able to return home the same day as the operation. You will likely experience some discomfort, but we will provide a prescription for medication to manage your pain. Swelling, bruising, tenderness, and some numbness is to be expected, and these effects should gradually fade. A small drain will be used, as well as a compression garment, to help optimize the outcome. Dr. Sepehr will provide you with instructions on how to care for these items. You should take it easy for approximately one to two weeks, after which you can usually return to normal activities. Strenuous activities should still be avoided for about a month to six weeks. It’s important to note that some residual swelling can continue for up to a year or more; however, this symptom often goes unnoticed by the patient.
Your comfort is a top priority, so feel free to give us a call if you have any questions about neck lift surgery and recovery.
