Creases on the brow are among the most common signs of aging that patients want to improve as they get older. The forehead is perhaps the most expressive part of the face; therefore, most facial expressions cause the brow to contract and form lines (known as “dynamic wrinkles”). These creases can look more obvious as the skin continues to thin and facial volume diminishes. We understand that it can be discouraging to feel like deep creases have become a permanent fixture on your face, but treatments are available to smooth these creases and achieve a more refreshed appearance.
- Neuromodulators: Injectable treatments designed to relax the facial muscles, including BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®, can reduce deep creases by preventing repetitive muscle contraction in the brow. This can smooth creases across the length of the brow, “frown lines” or glabellar lines, and other dynamic wrinkles.
- Facial Fillers: Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®, are designed to replenish volume loss in the brow, temples, tear troughs, cheeks, or lips. With treatment performed by an experienced injector, fillers can help correct deep creases and restore a full, youthful look in the upper face.
- Brow Lift Surgery: For some patients, the brow may be too thin or lax to adequately address with non-surgical treatments. In these cases, a brow lift (with or without the addition of fillers) can be an ideal way to rejuvenate the forehead, reduce wrinkling, and slow down facial aging.
The most effective treatment for one patient may not be the best solution for another, and facial plastic surgeon Ali Sepehr, MD would be happy to recommend an optimal approach based on your unique concerns. In some cases, a combination of surgical and non-surgical techniques can provide the highest quality of rejuvenation.
Forehead creases can not only make you look older than your actual age, but they may also unintentionally communicate emotions like stress, tiredness, or displeasure.
