How Can the ULTRApulse® Alpha Laser Refresh My Skin?
ULTRApulse® Alpha is unlike any other CO2 laser due to its ability to resurface the skin with less patient discomfort, downtime, and damage to surrounding tissues than other laser technologies. This is possible because ULTRApulse® Alpha allows the deepest penetration of the dermal layers with the lowest amount of energy. As a result, this powerful laser not only stimulates new collagen production — ensuring the effects are still noticeable long after your treatment — but ULTRApulse® Alpha also transforms your complexion by significantly improving:
- Scars
- Acne scarring
- Syringomas
- Drooping eyelid skin
- Stretch marks
- Rough/uneven skin tone or texture
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Discoloration and hyperpigmentation
With ULTRApulse® Alpha, dead skin cells are shed as the laser passes over the treatment area. This allows the body’s natural healing mechanisms to regenerate fresher, softer skin. Depending on the nature of your concerns, the ULTRApulse® Alpha laser can even provide a non-surgical blepharoplasty to some extent. Dr. Sepehr will discuss your options with you based on what you hope to accomplish during treatment.
Is the ULTRApulse® Alpha Laser Right for Me?
Thanks to its versatile treatment capabilities, laser resurfacing with the ULTRApulse® Alpha can be successful for many different skin types. The built-in modes of treatment — which include ActiveFX, DeepFX, Total FX, SCAAR FX — vary in the depths of penetration and the types of concerns treatable with each setting:
- ActiveFX: A more surface-level resurfacing treatment, Active FX can help enhance an uneven skin tone and address age spots, sun spots, and discoloration. This setting is generally not recommended for darker skin types.
- DeepFX: With the ability to penetrate deeper into the dermis, DeepFX can be ideal for crow’s feet, severe acne scarring, deep-set wrinkles, and severe hyperpigmentation.
- TotalFX: TotalFX combines the technologies provided by ActiveFX and DeepFX, penetrating the surface of the skin as well as the deeper dermis. This can vastly improve the tone and texture of the skin.
- SCAAR FX: Typically reserved for targeting significant scars and hard-to-treat lesions, SCAAR FX removes the top layer of skin and can penetrate up to 4 mm into the dermis. This allows your skincare specialist to break up deep scar tissue, promote skin regeneration, and enhance elasticity.
What Can I Expect During Treatment with the ULTRApulse® Alpha Laser?
During this in-office treatment, your skincare specialist will clean the treatment area and apply a numbing agent. Once the local anesthetic takes effect, the ULTRApulse® Alpha laser will be guided over your skin and deliver short pulses of energy to the appropriate depth. This may emit a sensation of gentle heat, but most patients describe the feeling as a rubber band snapping against the skin. After treatment is complete, a hydrating gel will be applied to calm and moisturize the area. The entire process typically takes less than an hour.
