How to Get Rid of a Double Chin

Even with an admirable routine of healthy dieting and regular exercise, it’s still possible to develop a submental fullness — wherein the area around the neckline features a more filled-out appearance, also known as a “double chin.” Factors such as genetics, aging, weight gain, and even poor posture can contribute to the formation of a double chin, which often causes embarrassment and self-consciousness. That said, a double chin is a common aesthetic concern that can be easily addressed with predictable liposuction techniques.

Submental Liposuction

For individuals with a good amount of skin elasticity and very little muscle laxity, liposuction to the neck can be a very effective surgical solution for getting rid of a double chin while sharpening and defining the jawline contour. Neck liposuction targets the fatty deposits in the neck and under the chin (submental region) and extracts fat cells using a slim, surgical instrument called a cannula. While swelling will be present for weeks to months following the procedure, submental liposuction can provide immediate and noticeable results. Most patients are able to resume non-strenuous activities in approximately one to two weeks. Although results can be achieved as a standalone procedure, for patients with substantial laxity and poor elasticity, submental liposuction pairs well with a neck lift, facelift, all-encompassing RadiaLift, or other jawline contouring techniques for patients whose ultimate goal is more comprehensive, harmonious facial rejuvenation.
