How Long Should I Wait for Revision Rhinoplasty?

A popular aesthetic surgery, rhinoplasty is one of the most demanding cosmetic procedures to perform. If you’ve had nose reshaping surgery to address the function and/or appearance of your nose and are now unsatisfied with the result, our extensively trained, board certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Ali Sepehr, has abundant experience performing revision rhinoplasty. Before considering this option, however, you should determine whether enough time has passed that a secondary operation can be performed, and if, in fact, a second procedure is warranted.

Many patients assume that within a few months after surgery they can see the final results of the experience. However, swelling often requires between six months and one year (or more) to fully resolve. This time frame can be further affected by a number of factors, including your own unique rate of healing. Six months will generally be the minimum waiting period before considering a second nasal operation, but there may be some exceptions to the rule. If you believe the swelling has gone down and would like to consult with Dr. Sepehr, he is available to provide an opinion.

It’s important to note that revision rhinoplasty is a more complicated procedure than the original nose reshaping surgery. In some cases, cartilage grafts from the rib or ear may be required to add structure. Dr. Sepehr specializes in rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty, and he will develop a customized treatment plan to help you achieve the outcome you desire.
